Mr. See Fan Fon Sing, father of MaxCity’s current Chairman, came to Mauritius from mainland China in the early part of the last century. He began in 1938 as a general retailer in consumer goods in Plaine Magnien. In the 1970’s, he founded Fon Sing Property Ltd which was engaged in the manufacture of candles, wax floor polish as well as in the distribution of popular consumer brands at the time such as Blendax, Evershine, Bois Cheri tea etc..…
In the 1980’s, the five sons of See Fan Fon Sing, namely Maxime, Alex, Roger, Wilson & and William diversified into property. The family was a pioneer in property development; in the 1980’s and through Fon Sing Property Ltd, the company’s growth accelerated throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s.
In the 80’s, Maxime Fon Sing also undertook some personal property projects such as Max Tower office building in Port Louis as well as retail/apartments developments such as Max Plaza in Pereybere and Max Centre in Rodrigues. Upon the return of his sons, Max and Danny in the early 1990’s, Maxime Fon Sing, decided to concentrate fully on his personal property developments via a newly formed company, namely MaxCity Properties.
A series of property development projects ensued such as Max Industry in Pailles, MaxCity Building and One Cathedral Square in Port Louis, the Emerald Park morcellement and Centre Commercial Emerald Park development as well as the iconic 1 CyberCity and Grand Baie La Croisette projects.
MaxCity also invested in the non-property projects such as ITSolvz, today a leading player in the IT sector in Mauritius and more recently GO Solar, for the production of electricity from solar PV systems. The company also holds sizeable investments in various listed companies and high profile projects.
